ContentRobot Recommends: Akismet

Did you know that Akismet comes with every install of WordPress? Brought to you by Automattic, it’s the easiest way to filter out comment and trackback spam.

Their algorithm combines the information about spam that has been captured on various blogs, and then blocks the future spam using the rules developed from the collected data.

It will check your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not, then let you review the spam it catches under your blog’s “Comments” dashboard.

While it’s not 100% foolproof, the cool thing is that you can help to “teach” it about the spammers they are not yet aware of in order to make the algorithm more effect for everyone.
